We are proud to celebrate our recent donation of over 10,000 bagels to La Jornada Food Pantry in Flushing, New York. Congresswoman Grace Meng and Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz joined the celebration of the graciously accepted donation from our REIL Capital family, in partnership with our family friend, Bagels by Bell, and Thomas Grech, President of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. In a joint effort we were able to help feed the thousands of Queens families and small businesses which suffered from the vast damages caused by Hurricane Ida.
“Where’s the money? Where’s the money for our small businesses?” Meng spoke out, reiterating Tom Grech’s outreach for small business help and support. “Restaurant Grants, PPP, EIDL, they (Queens Chamber of Commerce) have been fighting for it.” Meng continued. “It’s been a really tough year, not just for America, but especially here in Queens. Our constituents, through COVID, through Hurricane Ida, have really seen the worst”. Business Owners have described the flood damages as catastrophic and expensive.

Ian Samlin, owner of REIL Capital, immediately recognized the dire need for hurricane disaster relief. Together with his cousin, Evan, the two Samlins joined forces with Grech, passionately paving the way to feeding the families of Flushing, New York. “We are thankful for the opportunity to make such a big impact right here in our own backyard.” Ian stated. Meng thanked Bagels By Bell and Reil Capital for the support of her community and feeding the local families recovering from the aftermath of the disaster. The Samlins, founder and partners of family business, Reil Capital, are no strangers to donations and fast funding after sudden and dire natural disasters. “We have previously purchased 200,000 masks during the first round of mandatory shutdowns in 2020 due to COVID-19 in an effort to help small businesses through the pandemic.” Ian continued. ”We feel deeply honored to have made such a positive impact with our food donation at La Jornada. It is a place of hope in the heart of one of the hardest hit areas.”
The wholesome delivery of 11,000 bagels at La Jornada is said to kickstart the first of ongoing food donations by the Samlin’s close family friends, Warren and Jared Bell, owners of Bagels By Bell. Leading with compassion and love for helping businesses, Ian Samlin, reminds us all that by helping one another, we can become more resilient during tough times. “Whether we help businesses through donations or guiding them to get PPP funds, we will continue to serve our communities by lending a helping hand every way we can.”
